Designing projects for clients on Vancouver Island and throughout B.C., we are inspired to find innovative and appropriate solutions for each new project through pure and practical design.
Our design approach is inspired by a combination of skill and passion for creation, a thorough understanding of British Columbia’s unique environments, as well as attention to the needs of the client and ultimately the people inhabiting the space. It is this approach which provides an avenue for exploration in our work and invites discussion with our clients, consultants and builders throughout the design process.
At BJK Architecture our work is developed from a thorough appreciation of our client’s aspirations, programmatic requirements, characteristics of each site and creative building practices. Brian is involved in all stages of the project and maintains a close working relationship with his clients throughout the design and construction process. Our scope of work ranges from residential, commercial, and hospitality to retail projects and beyond.
The Team
Brian Kapuscinski
Principal, Architect
AIBC, MRAIC, M.Arch LEED®AP
After 27 years spent earning his spurs as a staff architect for local firms and as a founding principal of a midsized firm in Victoria, Brian has recently returned to his roots to exercise his love of pure and practical design through BJK Architecture Inc. – customer-oriented, light and responsive, with a preference for smaller geographic locations.
His prior training as an architectural technologist and extensive experience with a wide range of building types and methods, team structures, and project delivery systems, ranging in scale from small renovations to large office and research facilities, positions him as a regional expert in the design and construction industry.
Brian has volunteered with industry-related groups such as the City of Victoria Civic Heritage Trust, the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada Syllabus Program, and the local Advisory Design Panels in south Vancouver Island.
His recent focus has been the design of large design/build projects in Northern B.C., including office buildings, laboratory facilities and industrial projects. Specializing in sustainable and practical solutions, he is recognized as an exceptional problem-solver.
Brian is a graduate of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, received a Bachelor of Environmental Studies degree from the University of Manitoba, and a Master of Architecture from the Ohio State University.
Shirley Duong
Intern Architect
M.ARCH
Shirley is an Intern Architect with a Master of Architecture degree from UBC. She brings a wide range of experience in various building types and scales. Her focus is on creating transformative public spaces and built environments that have a positive impact on communities.
Specializing in sustainable design, Shirley works closely with her team to generate creative design responses that align with client’s visions and meet their aspirations. Shirley’s design philosophy revolves around understanding the broader impact of architecture on society and is dedicated to creating exceptional spaces that leave a lasting impression.
Driven by her passion for architecture’s potential to shape experiences, she consistently delivers innovative solutions that blend functionality, creativity, and aesthetics. Her commitment to thoughtful and impactful design makes her an asset to any project team.
Angela Tilley
Architectural Designer
B.A.S.
Angela joined the BJK Architecture team in 2019. After completing her Bachelor of Architectural Studies at Carleton University’s Azrieli School of Architecture in Ontario, she decided to move to the west coast and join a company that would allow her to grow her skills through an array of projects in locations all over B.C. Her role at our firm is our Architectural Designer and Architectural Technician, she works closely with Brian on all our projects.
Angela strives to design beautiful buildings that are also functional. Her attention to detail and her diligence ensures each project is executed to the needs and style of our clients. She is a talented designer with an eye for exceptional detail.
Jasper
Office Supervisor
Jasper plays an important role as Office Supervisor. She ensures lunch is taken on time and makes an appearance during Zoom meetings.
