This new addition onto the Fort Nelson Museum will provide the existing museum with 3 new gallery spaces, a small theater, and new washrooms all on the ground floor, with staff offices, work room and archive upstairs. The additions footprint is perfectly aligned with the existing museum, and the building is clad in vernacular woods, to blend the new building into the museum’s heritage site. From the front of the site, the additions roofline blends with the existing museum’s; it’s not until visitors come around the sides of the existing museum does the addition reveal itself, surrounded by trees and other heritage buildings on the site.
